This list serves for the discussion of non-commercial house and techno-house music. We strive to maintain THE HIGHEST level of signal-to-noise, and markedly intelligent discussion - all the latest releases, classic hard-to-find tracks, top labels and producers of the moment.
The Tech-house list has been running continuously since mid-1998, and has over 500 worldwide members. It is home to many DJ's, producers, label managers, and music lovers.

Discussion of all forms of deep house, minimal house, tech-house, and housey techno is welcome here. Talk about the deeper side of breaks (eg Layo and Bushwacka) is also relevant. Relevant labels include:
20:20 Vision, Abnormal, Bluem, Circulation, Chalant, Deepen, Drop Music, Doubledown, End, Eukahouse, Force Trax, Glasgow Underground, Grayhound, Grow, Guidance, i!, Iron Box, Killabite, KDJ, Ladomat 2000, Loaded, Low Pressings, MFF, Mosaic, MusicMan, Naked Music, Neon Heights, Nightshift, Nordic Trax, NRK, Nuphonic, Odori, OM Records, Pagan, Paper, Peacefrog, Perlon, Pirate Radio, Plastic City, Playhouse, Polyester, Product Deluxe, Primitive, Red Melon, Ritual, Seasons, Sensei, Shaboom, Siesta, Solid Groove, Soma, Stickman, Surreal, Suspect Package, Svek, Swag, Tag, Tango, Terraform, Transport, Tweekin, Wave, Wiggle, Worship, YoshiToshi, etc

Our list culture.

The Techouse list has been running continuously for a long time, and as such it has a community culture which we are very proud of. It is one based on respect of other members time, and for the nature of the list. Here are the key points:

All messages should be personalised to the list, and conversational...
That is, you should NEVER, EVER include the tech house list on your label or radio show broadcast lists. Instead, you should copy and paste that information into a new email, and write an introduction to it.

Promoting your WebCasts...
We provide listings for free on the Members Webcasts section of this website, so there's no need to post *every* week about your show. Sned your links to Nick Oxby, his details are on the contact page...
It is good to post links to the shows if they're archived though, ESPECIALLY if you have a tracklist. Because then everyone can listen, enjoy, and learn!

Gig promoting / advertising guidelines...
Many lists are plagued by individuals who join and just drop info about their parties, or sell second hand records. If you are joining with the sole intent of promoting parties, yourself, or some other entity (label, shop, magazine, webshow) please rethink this. Those who promote blindly shall be unsubscribed without notice. We have members from every continent and subcontinent on the globe. That means that the chances of anyone from the list actually being able to attend your gig this weekend in good old Canteloupe, NJ, is very low. So for 99% of members, the post will be spam.

Gigs CAN be mentioned on here if they meet some basic criteria:

- They include an international Tech House guest who would be known by, and of interest to a wide proportion of our audience.
- They include several listmembers, who are visiting another city as a special event.

The Loopholes...

We provide the ultimate loophole for those who are willing to listen and contribute.
You are at all times welcome to tag a little plug onto the END of an otherwise on-topic message. For example: "the new Herbert is amazing, great production blah blah blah... peace, Mr. SuperbDJ. PS: I'm playing this weekend in Salt Lake City so if anyone wants to check it out, its at Club XYZ"
Don't do it the other way round, by propping your gig and then tacking some 1-liner or a chart on the end. Thats not kosher.

Production questions vs. Gear talk...
If you want to ask questions or give advice about SOFTWARE BASED production techniques, thats all good. Many members share a love of production and use these tools.

For SPECIFIC HARDWARE questions, the Moveable Parts list at http://www.techno.ca/communication/lists/movableparts/
...is the place to find knowledgeable techies, who can answer your technical queries. So if you want to ask about a synth, or find out how to plug in a MIDI cable, head over there. Having said that, it is not considered criminal to post the *occasional* question about production, especially if it's a specifically tech-house sort of question...

Crossposting from other lists...
If there is information from another list that you feel is relevant for the Techouse list audience, here is what you should do.
RE-TITLE the email to remove the source list details and "Re:" tags.
INTRODUCE the email to the Techouse list, with the source list details in the body, eg "Hey guys, I saw this on List X, and thought you might be interested.

Off topic [OT] postings...
Don't do them. If it's OT, its OT... tell it to your priest!

We are a definition-free zone.

Because of the nature and diversity of underground house music, there will naturally be different opinions on what constitutes "Tech-house". Over the years, we've had this discussion many times on this list, and realised that it is fruitless - all we do is state our personal views back and forth. So don't ask "What do you guys consider tech house?"... because you'll invoke the wrath of all our long time contributers, and the admin team... who are perfectly comfortable with their own definitions!
Likewise, arguing about the exact nature of subgenres is best avoided

Sit back and listen!

A classic mistake for new members is to rush in and post furiously in an attempt to make an impression, or "work out whats going on". We STRONGLY recommend that new members sit back for a few weeks and listen to the discussion. The list has a distinct style in the way we communicate, and learning to post in that style is worthwile!
