RE: alternative live setup?
From: Gauss Control Yes.. I did something like you said: http://www.tech-house.org/gauss-control/images/gauss-control.jpg http://www.tech-house.org/gauss-control/images/mallorca.jpg And I did it becuase of my great PCI sound card. But it's still to big for some aircrafts and is veeeeeery FRAGILE to leave it on other hands... I think Im going to re-build it with a better case if I don't buy a laptop. Because is very interesting for me to use 8 in/outs and DSP effects in real time! :o) -----Mensaje original----- De: Techhouse-bounces@... Asunto: [Techhouse] alternative live setup? so, i'm just getting into production, and have certainly never performed a live p.a., but i've been wanting to for years, and so i've thought a little bit about the logistics of it. something that i never see anyone talk about, but that has seemed like an attractive option to me ever since affordable flatscreen monitors became available, has been custom building a rackmount audio box that you could pack into a small skb case and running a live show off of that. granted, it's not nearly as portable as a laptop, but having hauled around a fair amount of records over the years, i don't think it would be so cumbersome as to deter me from giving it a try when i (eventually) get around to doing software-based live p.a.s. has anybody had any experience with something along these lines? do any of the more experienced folks out there have strong opinions about it? i can imagine that hauling the gear doesn't sound all that great, but is anyone frustrated enough with the performance issues that come with laptops to consider doing something like this? any thoughts are eagerly welcomed! - charles __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
